Mary Bowerman

Wedding Officiant

Central San Diego

Q:What experience from other jobs or projects that will be an asset in this work?

My experience as being a Coordinator, Florist, Problem Solver, and staying focused on the real meaning of this amazing day. Their day. A day when two people who came into this world and lived their lives only to find their very best friend,  the love of their life, and the person they will build their treasure and life with. That’s what I love to do! Keep my eye on the prize!

Q: What strengths and skills do you bring to this work?

I always, always, operate from a place of gratitude. I was lucky to have married my best friend, my love of my life. Together in our forty years we created our treasure which is our family. We definitely knew better, worse, richer, poorer, sickness, and health. We kept our promises to each other, and our love was ever stronger till the end. I know one day I will pass from this earth and when I do, my sweet husband will meet me at the bridge, I know it.

Q: What do you enjoy most about this work?

Oh! That’s easy! Having the honor to stand with my couples and feel all that energy between them as they make their promises to one another. The vows they will speak, priceless. The gifts they will give to each other, everlasting. And, knowing as a parent of five adult children, how much their parents are loving and wishing them the moon and the stars. I am captured by the whole experience and it’s the one thing I know I will do for the rest of my life!

Q: What characteristics do you see in couples that encourage you?

Tender touches, when they are so nervous and the only person who can make them calm, confident, happy, and so sure they are in the right place is that human across from them, staring into their eyes, holding their hands, and with no words at all makes the world so much better.

Q: What personal experiences do you draw on when working with couples?

Well, their excitement, their nerves, their stress, I remember all of it like yesterday from my own wedding day! I love to make a joke, “ Like you know groom or partner, “ you will never get even close to 50% of the closet no matter how many rings you give her or him! Right?”

Or, partner or Bride you know just because you say I Do today, it will not automatically fix how he or she does ________(something that is a pet peeve, whatever it is). I just try to make a little humor settle everyone down and break the ice.
