Q:What experience from other jobs or projects that will be an asset in this work?

I started off in the wedding industry as a wedding/event planner in 1990. So much fun! After a few years of doing that, and having young children, I needed to downsize and what better part of the wedding process to do than the ceremony. In 2009 I decided to do ceremonies only. Planning the ceremony is always so much more intimate and getting to know my couples in this way has created some great friendships.

Q: What strengths and skills do you bring to this job?

I am a people person and quite detail oriented. Working well with couples and adapting to their needs is extremely important. Every couple is unique and has their own style. Being flexible and adaptable are my strong suits. I also have been public speaking since I was 10 years old. Speaking in front of a crowd has never been an issue for me. I absolutely enjoy performing ceremonies for couples.

Q: What do you enjoy most about this work?

The best part about this career is getting to know people. Being a special part of an intimate ceremony makes my heart happy. I enjoy standing up with my couples and making sure they are okay, comfortable, and feeling good about what they are about to do. I love to see their faces once they have had that kiss. The excitement and relief in their eyes, well that is priceless.

Q: What characteristics do you see in couples that encourage you?

I cannot say this enough, each couple is so different and that is what I really enjoy seeing. I like to see how each person is feeling about their ceremony. I like to talk to each one separately prior to the ceremony just to see where their headspace is, and it makes me feel good to know that I can help them along the way.

Q: What personal experiences do you draw on when working with couples?

I draw on my own personal experiences in life, love, and marriage. However, I like to put myself in their shoes. Working with my couples, I know how different each couple is, so advice, shared knowledge and coaching come from a genuine place. I can probably say, been there done that in most situations. I like to take advantage of that and use it to help others.
